What does a Cargo Agent do

Responsibilities

• Provide quotations to potential clients for large, industry-related shipments
• Complete shipping and customs documentation and ensure correct paperwork
• Arrange parcel transportation, selecting appropriate mode (rail, boat, plane, truck) and freight carriers
• Arrange insurance, inspections, payment of tariffs and duties, and brokerage services as part of the quote
• Follow up with customs officers in receiving country to resolve issues
• Develop and maintain relationships with insurance companies, freight carriers, customs agents, and other service providers
• Discover and win new business opportunities and provide accurate service estimates
• Use computerized systems to streamline the process
