Course Overview

CANS 200: Understanding Canada. This course examines varying ideas about Canada by exploring key events, institutions, and critical topics such as colonialism, liberalism, nationalism, identity, multiculturalism, race, the welfare state, human rights, gender equity, public health, climate change, and reconciliation.

Teaching Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s Degree (PhD preferred)
  • Experience: Knowledge and teaching experience in the anthropology, history, geography, and sociology of Canada as well as its politics, literature, and culture.

Schedule and Location

MW 11:35 am–12:55 pm, August 31 2026 – December 4 2026.
Location: ENGMC 304, McGill Institute for the Study of Canada, Faculty of Arts, McGill University.
