Project Overview
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep‑water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant’s cooling system. Key elements include:
- 5‑km‑long tunnel built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM)
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore)
- An offshore modular intake structure resting on the lake bed
Responsibilities
- Manage the in‑tunnel, LU/LO and surface monitoring teams
- Ensure accurate acquisition of data
- Collect all monitoring data in time for daily review
- Program data for the tunnel guidance software
- Liaise with JV SCL Engineering team and the client regarding daily monitoring reports and queries
- Develop junior members of staff within the team
- Attend daily SRG (Shift Review Group) meetings as required and report back to the team
