Balancing Authority Operator or Senior Operator

Position Summary

The Balancing Authority Operator position is responsible for the real-time monitoring and operation of Xcel Energy’s Balancing Authority Area/Local Balancing Authority Area. The operator monitors the Balancing Authority Area and takes independent actions to ensure security and reliability consistent with NERC and RRO requirements, ensuring the accuracy of Energy Management System data relating to interchange, load, generation, and transmission schedules.

Essential Responsibilities

• Monitor the Xcel Balancing Authority Area and take necessary steps to ensure security and reliability consistent with NERC requirements.
• Ensure operation parameters are within internal guidelines, NERC and RRO standards, and applicable RTO guidelines.
• Manage spinning and operating reserves, balance generation to load, and plan to meet load forecasts.
